About Moyra
Moyra MacIntosh
Entering the field of counselling over 35 years ago has been one my most fulfilling life experiences. As a married partner of over 40 years and a mother to four wonderful children I have enjoyed building my career in the care sector.
My career started in the UK as a registered nurse at a major teaching hospital, where I ran a busy ward and worked in the area of mental health.
After emigrating to Australia, I trained and worked for over 35 years as a Senior Child & Family Therapist, Group Facilitator, Trainer & Senior Clinical Supervisor with Uniting Child & Family Counselling Service.
I am now working part-time in private practice with individuals, couples & families, including facilitating Prepare Pre-marriage courses and supporting individuals, couples & families through challenging life transitions and post-separation counselling. I offer a focus on the importance of understanding the impact of Family of Origin dynamics, Trauma (including Childhood Sexual Abuse) and Grief and Loss. I practice at North Sydney and Newport and offer Zoom (online) sessions. Some of my work involves supporting people in Community Care programs both in the home and at my practice.
I have completed extensive training and accreditation which includes:
- Individual, Couple and Family Therapist training with Unifam.
- Master degree in Couple & Family Therapy from UNSW.
- Graduate Certificate of Family Systems Theory and Practice at the Family Systems Institute.
- I am a registered senior clinical member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Outside of my profession I enjoy sailing on Pittwater and spending time in nature and with my family.
